Saltwood Almshouses - owned and managed by The Robert Thompson Charities

Saltwood Almshouses

The trustees of the Robert Thompson Charities at Saltwood would like you to know about their almshouses.

Robert Thompson Charities owns and runs eight almshouses as well as the village hall. Both stand next to each other at the edge of Saltwood village green.

Built at the end of the 19th Century, in what is known as the Arts and Crafts style, they owe their origins to a bequest by Robert Thompson who lived in Saltwood and died at the venerable age of 94 in 1896.

The Charity is committed to providing long-term, quality and low-cost housing for elderly local residents who are from the area or with connections to Saltwood. The eight almshouses are intended for four couples and four single residents.

The properties have been modernised internally but still maintain their original external appearance and together with the village hall exemplify the typical English village.
